Claude · Tax
LawDiver Tax is approved in the Claude directory. Connect once, then Claude can search the Code and regs, open IRS guidance, pull Tax Court opinions, open treaties, and check whether a ruling is still good — from the live library, not from memory.
Go to claude.ai and sign in. Use a computer for this first connection. After it works, the same Claude account can use LawDiver Tax on the desktop app and, once connected, on the phone.
LawDiver Tax is approved and listed. Open https://claude.ai/directory/65c5e10f-ed12-4f92-8df3-85b45523d3d0 and click Connect (it may say Install). This is separate from caselaw LawDiver.
Claude sends you to LawDiver. Sign in with the email and password for your LawDiver account. If you do not have one yet, create it on that screen or at lawdiver.com/signup. Claude never sees your password.
LawDiver asks whether this Claude account may search tax authorities, open documents, and check guidance for you. Click Allow. If you click Deny, Claude stays disconnected until you connect again and click Allow.
Start a new chat. At the lower left of the message box, click the + button. Hover over Connectors. Turn LawDiver Tax on. A connector that is connected in settings still has to be on for that chat.
Paste: Using LawDiver Tax, retrieve IRC § 61 (current edition) and summarize gross income from the text returned. Claude should call tax_retrieve before it answers.

MCP server URL: https://lawdiver.com/mcp/tax. Tool catalog: https://lawdiver.com/mcp/tax/toolspec.json.
Add LawDiver Tax by hand. Leave Advanced settings empty. Do not type a client id, a secret, or an API key. Use the Tax URL — not caselaw /mcp.
On those plans, only an Owner can add a connector for the organization. Ask them to open Organization settings, then Connectors, then Add, then Custom, then Web, and enter https://lawdiver.com/mcp/tax. After they add it, you open Customize, then Connectors, find LawDiver Tax, click Connect, and sign in with your own LawDiver account.
Claude is the assistant you type to. LawDiver Tax is a library of federal tax primary sources and tax caselaw. A connector joins them. The technical name for that plug is MCP (Model Context Protocol). You connect once. After that, Claude can look something up in the tax library in the middle of a chat.
A Code section or revenue ruling Claude remembers can look perfect and still be wrong or outdated. With LawDiver Tax connected, you can tell Claude to search the library, open the document, and quote what it found — or check whether IRS guidance still stands.
LawDiver Tax only reads. It searches, opens text, and checks guidance status. It does not edit the library, edit your files, or file anything with the IRS or a court.
These are the five jobs LawDiver Tax gives Claude. Ask in plain English. Claude picks the tool. If the library has no match, Claude should say so.
tax_search finds IRC, Treas. Reg., revenue rulings, procedures, notices, written determinations, forms, pubs, and IRM. It does not search cases or treaties — use the case and treaty tools for those.
tax_retrieve opens one IRC or Treas. Reg. section (year defaults to the latest held), IRS guidance, a form (optionally with instructions), or an IRM section. You can ask to compare two Code or reg years.
get_tax_case searches and retrieves tax opinions with good-law signals, citing cases, and IRS context when LawDiver has them.
get_tax_treaty searches by country or words, or retrieves one treaty with article text and links to implementing legislation when held.
check_tax_authority batch-checks revenue rulings, procedures, and notices for adverse IRS status and judicial notes. Not for IRC or Treas. Reg. sections. Letter rulings, TAMs, and CCAs cannot be cited as precedent (IRC § 6110(k)(3)).
An empty result is not proof an authority does not exist. Claude should say it was not found in LawDiver Tax, not invent a substitute cite.
Claude can still answer from memory if you leave the request loose. These habits keep it on LawDiver Tax.
Click + at the lower left, hover Connectors, and switch LawDiver Tax on before you send the question.
Those words tell Claude to use the Tax connector for this request — not the caselaw connector, and not memory.
Say Code section, Treas. Reg., Rev. Rul., Tax Court opinion, or treaty. Claude is set up to pick tax_search, tax_retrieve, get_tax_case, get_tax_treaty, or check_tax_authority.
Search, or open this section, or check this ruling. A short request is easier for Claude to follow than three jobs in one paragraph.
Add this sentence: “Answer from LawDiver Tax. If LawDiver Tax has no match, say that.”
A real LawDiver Tax answer has a step in the chat where Claude searched or checked something. You may see names like tax_search, tax_retrieve, get_tax_case, get_tax_treaty, or check_tax_authority. An answer with no lookup step came from memory.
Reply: “Use the LawDiver Tax connector and show me what it found.” Then ask it to quote the text it retrieved.
Paste one of these after LawDiver Tax is on. Change the cite to your own.
Using LawDiver Tax, retrieve IRC § 61 (current edition). Quote from the text LawDiver returns. If LawDiver Tax has no match, say that.
Using LawDiver Tax, is Rev. Rul. 99-7 still good law? Use only what check_tax_authority returns.
Using LawDiver Tax, search Tax Court cases about reasonable compensation for S corporation shareholders. Answer from LawDiver Tax. If there is no match, say that.
Using LawDiver Tax, retrieve the U.S.–Canada income tax treaty and list the articles LawDiver returns.
Prefer OAuth on claude.ai when you can. For Claude Code or Claude Desktop config files, use an ld_tax_ key — not a caselaw ld_live_ key.
