Summary

The court affirmed Willis's three murder convictions, death sentences, and remaining convictions and sentences, but vacated three aggravated-assault convictions and sentences because those offenses merged into the corresponding murders. It rejected or found unpreserved Willis's challenges to the death-penalty statutes, jury selection, jury composition, discovery-related continuance, victim-impact evidence, gang evidence, and sentencing review. The court also held that an erroneous refusal to excuse a prospective juror for cause is not presumptively harmful when the defendant removes that juror with a peremptory strike, unless an unqualified juror ultimately serves.
