SCOTUSShoshone Mining Company v. Rutter

April 30, 1900177 U.S. 505

The Court held that a suit brought under Rev. Stat. §§2325,2326 (an "adverse suit") is not per se a suit arising under the Constitution or laws of the United States for jurisdictional purposes; therefore, absent diversity of citizenship or an amount in controversy over $2,000, the federal courts lack jurisdiction.
