How do I look up a court case for free?

Open LawDiver, choose the jurisdiction, and search by citation, case name, or a description of the legal issue. All 10 million+ opinions are readable in full at no cost and with no account.

Can I search caselaw by describing the legal issue instead of using keywords?

Yes. LawDiver runs semantic search over opinion text, so a plain-English description of the issue returns cases that address it even when they use different wording. Keyword, boolean, and citation search are also supported.

Does LawDiver support boolean search operators?

Yes. Examples: negligence AND causation (both words), rescission OR cancellation (either word), immunity NOT prisoner or immunity BUT NOT prisoner (exclude that word; NOT, BUT NOT, and % are the same exclusion), "clearly established" (those words in order), employer /s negligent (within 25 words), summary w/3 judgment (within 3 words). /p is within 80 words. Pin Boolean when every term must match. The rules are at /docs/search-connectors. Citation lookup, case-name lookup, and semantic search run alongside that on the default search.

Can I download the official PDF of an opinion?

Yes. Every opinion links to the official court PDF, and a selected set of cases can be exported as a single structured research PDF.
