Supreme Court of Oklahoma
Ghoussoub v. Yammine
June 21, 2022518 P.3d 110
Summary
The court held that revocation of a former spouse’s life-insurance beneficiary status under 15 O.S.2011 § 178(A) does not occur upon entry of a bifurcated divorce order when property and other issues remain unresolved. Reading § 178(A) in pari materia with the automatic-temporary-injunction provisions of 43 O.S.2011 § 110(C), the court concluded that the specific statute governing the injunction controls and requires final judgment on all issues before the beneficiary designation is revoked. The declaratory judgment for the contingent beneficiary was therefore reversed and the matter was remanded.
