Summary

The Supreme Court of North Carolina reversed the Court of Appeals and reinstated defendant's felony obstruction-of-justice conviction. It held that, viewing the evidence in the light most favorable to the State, a reasonable jury could find that defendant knowingly made false statements about an employee's work and that those statements obstructed, impeded, or hindered the SBI investigation. The Court concluded that the evidence need only permit a reasonable inference of guilt and need not establish obstruction through direct evidence.
