Summary
The Court of Appeals held that New York courts may exercise specific personal jurisdiction over Vayu under CPLR 302 (a) (1). Vayu purposefully conducted business connected to New York through extended communications and negotiations with SUNY Stony Brook, a New York meeting that resulted in modified contractual terms, and a continuing business relationship, and the claims arose from those contacts. The Court further held that exercising jurisdiction satisfied due process because Vayu should reasonably have anticipated being sued in New York.
