Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court
H1 Lincoln, Inc. v. South Washington Street, LLC, & Others.
March 11, 2025
Summary
The court held that a judgment debtor's unconditional payment of the full monetary judgment directly to the creditor fully satisfies the judgment and stops postjudgment interest, even when the debtor preserves appellate rights. It further held that dissolution of an attachment and lis pendens following full payment is a consequence of satisfaction, not a condition that prevents interest from stopping. The court therefore reversed the portion of the postjudgment order allowing interest to accrue after payment.
