The court held that a claim asserting a juvenile offender’s future entitlement to State-furnished counsel during parole proceedings is not cognizable through a motion to correct an illegal sentence under Maryland Rule 4-345(a). The alleged lack of counsel does not inhere in the life sentence, which was lawful and constitutional on its face because it provided the possibility of parole. The court therefore affirmed without deciding whether the petitioner may have a right to counsel through another procedural vehicle or whether later-enacted sentence-reduction legislation rendered the claim moot.
