Summary
The court held that the legality of a sentence challenged through a motion to correct an illegal sentence is determined by the law in effect when the original sentence was pronounced, not by law existing at a later resentencing. Because Jacobson's challenge arose from such a motion, the law applicable at his 2015 sentencing governed the classification of his out-of-state convictions, and the district court correctly applied that law. The Court of Appeals judgment was reversed and the district court judgment was affirmed.
