Summary

The court affirmed Stafford's convictions for premeditated first-degree murder and cruelty to animals. It held that the expanded premeditation instruction was legally and factually appropriate, that the evidence did not support a heat-of-passion voluntary manslaughter instruction, and that statements made during the victim's medical examination were nontestimonial and therefore did not violate the Confrontation Clause. Because the court found no individual errors, it rejected the cumulative-error claim.
