Summary

The court held that a successive motion seeking rehearing of the denial of a Rule 604(d) postsentencing motion does not toll the deadline for filing a direct appeal. Because the defendant filed his notice of appeal more than 14 years after denial of his original sentence-reconsideration motion, the appellate court lacked jurisdiction over the direct appeal. The court affirmed the appellate judgment and remanded for reinstatement and further proceedings on the defendant's collateral pleadings.
