Illinois Supreme Court
Jones v. Municipal Officers Electoral Board
March 11, 2021457 Ill. Dec. 469
Summary
The Illinois Supreme Court held that the referendum amending the city code became legally effective on November 24, 2020, the date the election results were certified, so Thaddeus Jones was qualified to file for mayor on November 16, 2020. Accordingly the Court reversed the Municipal Officers Electoral Board’s disqualification of Jones and vacated the lower courts’ orders. The Court declined to address the constitutional claims because they were not raised before the Board.
