Summary

The Idaho Supreme Court affirmed Green’s convictions, holding that testimony from a detective who did not personally perform a cell-phone extraction did not violate the Confrontation Clause because the detective independently analyzed the extracted data and reached his own conclusions. The Court also held that the detective’s testimony, together with testimony concerning the phone’s chain of custody and identifying information, sufficiently authenticated the extracted text messages under Idaho Rule of Evidence 901.
