Reddick v. State

Summary

The Supreme Court of Georgia affirmed Reddick’s convictions for felony murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The evidence permitted the jury to find that Reddick fired the fatal shot at an unarmed victim who was retreating and no longer posed a threat, disproving self-defense and defense of habitation beyond a reasonable doubt. The court also held that the trial court implicitly rejected Reddick’s habitation-defense immunity claim and that none of his ineffective-assistance claims satisfied the required performance and prejudice standards.
