Supreme Court of Georgia
Evans v. State
September 30, 2025
Summary
The court affirmed Evans's convictions, rejecting his challenges to the admission of a gang-related letter, handwriting-expert testimony, and a co-defendant's recorded interview, as well as his ineffective-assistance claims. It held that any assumed evidentiary errors involving the letter and handwriting testimony were harmless, and that the interview was admissible under forfeiture by wrongdoing. The court vacated the sentences for aggravated assault and aggravated battery because those offenses merged into the murder conviction. All Justices concurred.
