The Court held that a proceeding before jurors who were never administered the required jury oath is not a legally valid trial for purposes of Georgia's statutory speedy-trial demand. Because Bowman was not tried by the applicable deadline, he was entitled to discharge and acquittal, and the Court reversed the Court of Appeals. The Court did not separately reach the constitutional speedy-trial claims because the statutory remedy resolved the case.
