Summary

The Court held that an indigent defendant's pro bono counsel are not "other resources" that can be used to employ a lawyer under the Indigent Defense Act. It also held that the Act permits pro bono counsel representing an indigent defendant to obtain state-funded ancillary defense services by contracting with the Georgia Public Defender Council or the appropriate circuit public defender. The Court vacated the trial court's constitutional rulings because the statutory mechanism made it unnecessary to decide the constitutional questions at that time.
