Summary
The court affirmed Hinton's convictions and sentences. It held that, even assuming counsel was deficient for failing to renew the request for a voluntary-manslaughter instruction, Hinton failed to show a reasonable probability of a different verdict because the evidence supporting felony murder was strong and the manslaughter evidence was weak. The court also held that the attempted-armed-robbery conviction did not merge with the felony-murder conviction predicated on aggravated assault because each offense required proof of an element the other did not.
