Summary

The court upheld Jones’s convictions after concluding that the evidence supported the jury’s findings that he maliciously injured his daughter and unreasonably delayed obtaining medical treatment. It rejected his ineffective-assistance and mistrial claims, but vacated one cruelty-to-children conviction because the two acts were not separated by a deliberate interval and therefore merged for sentencing. The court also held that a later statutory amendment reducing the sentencing range did not apply retroactively.
