Summary

The court held that the evidence was sufficient to support Donaldson’s felony-murder, aggravated-assault, and firearm-possession convictions because the jury could credit the State’s account of the shooting and reject his self-defense testimony. It also held that the trial court properly exercised its discretion when denying a new trial on the general grounds. The court nevertheless vacated the aggravated-assault and firearm-possession convictions that should have merged for sentencing, while affirming the remaining convictions and sentences.
