Summary

The court held that the evidence was sufficient to support Donaldson's convictions because the jury was entitled to reject his self-defense account and credit evidence that he shot the victim in the back. It also held that the trial court properly exercised its thirteenth-juror discretion in denying a new trial on the general grounds. The court nevertheless vacated the aggravated-assault and firearm-possession convictions and sentences that resulted from merger errors, while affirming the remaining convictions and sentences.
