Supreme Court of Florida
State of Florida, Petitioner v. Kenneth Purdy, Respondent.
August 30, 2018252 So. 3d 723
Summary
The court answered the certified question in the negative, holding that Florida's juvenile-sentencing statutes require review only of the sentence imposed for the specified offense covered by the statute, not the offender's aggregate sentence from the same proceeding. Because Purdy's consecutive sentences for armed robbery and armed carjacking were neither subject to the statutory review mechanism nor sought to be resentenced under it, the trial court correctly declined to review them. Justice Pariente, dissenting, would have required review of the aggregate sentence on constitutional grounds.
