Supreme Court of Florida
In Re: Amendments to the Florida Rules of Appellate Procedure - 2017 Regular-Cycle Report
October 25, 2018256 So. 3d 1218
Summary
The Court adopted most proposed amendments to the Florida Rules of Appellate Procedure, with revisions, and made them effective January 1, 2019. It declined to require three-judge panels for circuit-court appellate matters, instead directing a special workgroup to study the issue and possible related reforms. The amendments address rendition and tolling motions, partial-final-judgment review, appealable nonfinal orders, briefing and record procedures, rehearing and reconsideration motions, joinder, related-case notices, attorney-fee motions, and electronic service. Justice Pariente, dissenting in part, would have adopted mandatory three-judge circuit-court appellate panels, and Justice Lewis, dissenting in part, would not have amended the joinder rule.
