Summary
The court adopted most of the proposed amendments to the Florida Rules of Appellate Procedure, with revisions, effective January 1, 2019. The amendments address rendition, partial-final-judgment review, appealable nonfinal orders, briefing, rehearing motions, related cases, attorney-fee motions, service, and numerous criminal, juvenile, administrative, and workers' compensation procedures. The court declined to require three-judge panels for circuit-court appellate proceedings and instead directed a special workgroup to study the issue. Pariente, J., and Lewis, J., concurred in part and dissented in part; Pariente would have adopted mandatory three-judge panels, while Lewis objected to the joinder amendment.
