Supreme Court of Florida
In Re: Amendments to the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission Rules
August 30, 2018252 So. 3d 733
Summary
The Court repealed amendments to Rules 6 and 20 of the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission Rules that purported to let Commission panels designate filings with the Court as confidential. The Court held that confidentiality of court filings is governed exclusively by the Court's rule governing judicial branch records and that the Commission lacks constitutional authority to create additional confidentiality procedures for filings in the Court. The amendments were therefore inconsistent with the governing access rule and beyond the Commission's authority.
