Sanders v. Turner

Summary

The Court affirmed the Family Court’s determination that a coercive, noncompensatory contempt fine must be paid to the court rather than to the private party who sought enforcement. It held that the earlier contempt order was interlocutory because the fine was contingent on noncompliance, and the later contempt order made the earlier order reviewable. The Court also held that the Family Court judge could address the payment-recipient issue during review of the Commissioner’s order because the governing review authority was broad and Sanders had an opportunity to respond.
