Supreme Court of Delaware
Mumford v. State
October 17, 2018
Summary
The Court affirmed the denial of Mumford's motion for acquittal on the money-laundering charge. Applying de novo review, it held that the evidence, viewed in the light most favorable to the State, allowed a rational jury to find that Mumford possessed drugs for sale and that a substantial amount of the cash found in safety-deposit boxes and at a stash house represented drug proceeds. The Court also clarified that the Delaware statute does not require a financial transaction or transformation of criminal proceeds into ostensibly legitimate assets.
