Taylor v. State

Summary

The Supreme Court of Delaware affirmed Taylor's convictions and death sentence. It held that the trial court properly prevented counsel from presenting a guilty-but-mentally-ill defense over Taylor's objection, that sufficient evidence supported the abuse-of-a-corpse conviction, and that the death sentence was imposed through a sufficiently careful and non-arbitrary weighing process and was proportionate. The Court also reaffirmed that a competent defendant has ultimate authority over whether to pursue that defense. No separate opinions were filed.
