Summary
The Court held that the trial court should have granted Washington's motion for judgment of acquittal because the State's only evidence connecting him to the robbery was an accomplice's uncorroborated testimony that materially and irreconcilably conflicted with the victim's account. Those conflicts concerned the number and identity of the participants, the presence of guns, and the events in the alley, and prevented any rational jury from finding guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The judgment was reversed and the matter remanded.
