Summary
The court held that police lacked reasonable suspicion to forcibly detain the defendant based on an anonymous 911 report that a young man in a group had a handgun. Although the caller's firsthand, contemporaneous report and use of the 911 system made the tip sufficiently reliable to establish that some young man nearby might possess a handgun, the description did not particularize the defendant or identify which, if any, of the six men possessed it. The court therefore reversed the conviction and directed the trial court to grant the motion to suppress.
