Summary
The court held that Connecticut public policy permits imposing on a school organizing an educational trip abroad a duty to warn students and parents about, and take reasonable measures to protect against, foreseeable serious insect-borne diseases. It also held that the approximately $41.5 million verdict, including $31.5 million in noneconomic damages, did not warrant remittitur because the award fell within the uncertain range of just damages and was supported by the plaintiff's profound, permanent injuries. The court answered both certified questions from the federal appellate court.
