Summary

The court held that the trial court improperly required the defendant to remain shackled under a routine policy without making findings of particularized necessity. Nevertheless, the defendant was not entitled to a new trial because the record did not show that the jury saw or otherwise knew about the restraints, and the defendant therefore failed to establish prejudice or a due process violation. The judgment of the Appellate Court was affirmed.
