Supreme Court of Connecticut
Peter Balloli v. New Haven Police Department
December 27, 2016324 Conn. 14
Summary
The court held that a police officer departs from his place of abode for purposes of workers' compensation coverage when he leaves his residential property and enters a public street while traveling to duty. Because the plaintiff was injured in the public street after leaving his driveway, his injury occurred in the course of employment, and the board erred in affirming dismissal of his claim. The judgment was reversed and remanded for further proceedings.
