Supreme Court of Connecticut

Balloli v. New Haven Police Dept.

December 27, 2016

Summary

The court held that a police officer has departed from his place of abode for purposes of workers' compensation coverage when he leaves his property and enters a public street on the way to duty. Because the plaintiff was injured in the street while retrieving his keys, his injury occurred in the course of employment even though he had not entered his vehicle. The court reversed the board's dismissal and remanded for further proceedings.
