Supreme Court of Connecticut

State v. Williams

July 28, 2015

Summary

The court held that the trial court did not abuse its discretion by excluding expert testimony concerning the fallibility of eyewitness identifications. Although such testimony may be admissible when relevant and helpful, its exclusion was proper here because the eyewitness had prior familiarity with the defendant, had a substantial opportunity to observe him, identified him promptly, and encountered circumstances that limited the proposed expert testimony's usefulness. The judgment affirming the defendant's convictions was affirmed.
