Summary

The court held that the attendant-circumstances provision of Connecticut's criminal attempt statute is not limited to situations in which commission of the intended crime was objectively impossible. Because the defendant believed he had killed the victim after intentionally assaulting her with the intent to kill, the evidence was sufficient for a jury to find an attempted murder under that provision. The court affirmed the judgment and overruled prior precedent to the extent it imposed an impossibility limitation.
