The court held that police officers' warrantless entry into the bedroom was justified by exigent circumstances because, considering the totality of the circumstances, they reasonably believed immediate action was necessary to protect themselves and others from a potentially armed homicide suspect or associate. The court concluded that probable cause to arrest or search existed at the outset and that no single factor, including certainty that the suspect was present, was dispositive. It therefore reversed the Appellate Court and directed it to affirm the trial court's denial of the suppression motion.
