Supreme Court of Connecticut

State v. Dort

December 30, 2014

Summary

Justice Espinosa dissented from the majority’s conclusion that the defendant’s allegations required an independent competency inquiry. She would have held that the allegations were vague and conclusory, did not raise a reasonable doubt about competency, and were properly rejected by the trial court under the abuse-of-discretion standard. The dissent therefore would have upheld the trial court’s denial of a competency hearing.
