Summary

The court held that the trial court properly joined the Hartford and Enfield charges because the evidence was cross-admissible to present the complete sequence of events and to establish motive and intent. It further held that the evidence supported one kidnapping beginning with the victim’s abduction in Hartford, but not a second kidnapping because the state failed to prove that the victim was ever liberated from the defendant’s control. The court therefore affirmed the other convictions and reversed the Enfield kidnapping conviction, directing entry of an acquittal on that count.
