Summary

The court held that the trial court substantially complied with the statutory requirement governing advisements about potential immigration consequences of a guilty plea. Although the court did not personally question the defendant about immigration consequences, defense counsel represented that he had discussed them with the defendant, and the record otherwise demonstrated that the defendant had notice of the risk of deportation. The court therefore reversed the Appellate Court and directed it to affirm the trial court’s judgments.
