Summary

The court held that the statutory exceptions for transporting or repairing a knife apply only to knives with blades at least four inches long, not to switchblade knives. Because the defendant carried a switchblade, he was not entitled to a jury instruction concerning an implicit residence or place-of-abode exception, regardless of whether his dormitory hallway was part of his abode. The court therefore affirmed the Appellate Court's judgment on an alternative statutory-interpretation ground.
