Summary

The court held that the exception governing competing consent by jointly occupying residents does not apply when the objecting resident fails to object at the time the other resident consents to entry and search. Because Williams did not object until after his wife had consented and officers had entered, his later request that they leave did not invalidate her consent or require the officers to depart. The court affirmed the judgment denying suppression on different grounds from those articulated by the court of appeals.
