The court held that the officer’s limited entry a few feet into Stock’s hotel room was reasonable under the Fourth Amendment because Stock’s father, an invited adult family member, opened the door and stepped aside in Stock’s immediate presence, without objection. Stock’s later agreement to speak with the officer and conduct in making room for him further supported the conclusion that she had authorized her father to permit the limited entry. The court therefore held that Stock’s statements were admissible and reversed the court of appeals. Justice Gabriel, dissenting, would have held that the record did not establish Stock’s consent and that the entry crossed the constitutional threshold of her home.
