Summary

The court held that a "compensated employee of a public law enforcement agency" must provide services to, receive payment from, and be subject to the direction and control of that agency. Because the challenged juror worked at the county jail through a private agency, was paid by that agency, and was not shown to be controlled by the jail, the trial court properly denied the challenge for cause, and the judgment was affirmed. Justice Gabriel, joined by Justice Hood, concurred in the judgment but would have resolved the appeal under existing harmless-error precedent without reaching the statutory interpretation issue.
