Summary

The court held that the Medina test governing involuntary medication also applies when the State seeks to increase the dosage of medication that a patient voluntarily takes at a lower dose. It further held that a stable patient’s lack of improvement, without evidence of significant and likely long-term deterioration or danger of serious harm, does not satisfy that test. The court therefore affirmed the court of appeals and remanded for proceedings consistent with its opinion.
