The court held that a trial court lacks authority to order defense access to a private residence controlled by a nonparty when no consent, statute, rule, or constitutional provision authorizes the intrusion. Criminal discovery rules and the constitutional rights to compulsory process, due process, and confrontation provide access to specified governmental evidence, witnesses, and tangible objects, but not an investigatory right to inspect a private home.
