The court affirmed suppression of all challenged evidence. It held that the defendant's statement at the arrest scene was involuntary because officers obtained it through disproportionate physical force, that the cocaine discovered through the statement and arrest was properly suppressed, and that the later police-station statements remained infected by the earlier coercion. Justice COATS, dissenting, would have reversed suppression of both the cocaine and later statements; Justice EID, joined by Justice RICE, would have affirmed suppression of the statements but reversed suppression of the cocaine.
