Summary
The court affirmed the judgment quieting title to the hospital property in Washington Regional Medical Center and held that the 1909 deed extinguished the Stone heirs’ reversionary interest by creating a charitable trust. Because the heirs no longer had an interest in the property, they lacked standing to enforce the trust, while WRMC established the legal title and possession necessary for its quiet-title action. The court also held that the dissolved hospital corporation was not an indispensable party. Justice Hart, joined by Justice Baker, concurred in part but would have declined to reach the quiet-title merits and disagreed with the majority’s conclusion that WRMC established fee-simple title and adverse possession.
