Arizona Supreme Court
Shea v. Maricopa
May 3, 2023
Summary
The court held that a timely filing seeking review of an administrative decision satisfies the jurisdictional requirements when its substance gives notice of the appeal, identifies the decision being challenged, and states the issues presented. A filing need not be titled as a notice of appeal or use a prescribed format when its content provides nonmisleading and nonprejudicial notice. The court reversed the trial court, vacated the court of appeals’ opinion, and remanded for further proceedings.
